Sunnen Portable Hones are capable of honing open, shouldered, blind, keyway, splined, tandem, or rifled bores to a uniform surface finish of .08-1.5 micrometer Ra (3-60 microinches Ra) in aluminum, welded, drawn or hardened steel, brass, ceramic, carbide, etc. They can be run in an electric drill, air drill, drill press, or honing rig.

P-180

The Sunnen P180 Honall is a portable tool that uses the Sunnen high precision honing machine mandrels to produce straight round bores in parts that are too heavy or bulky to take to the honing machine. The P180 driver will accept all the Sunnen mandrels from 0.125” (3.175mm) to 1.375” (34.925mm). The most common automotive application is the honing of valve guides for highly accurate, precise fit. The P180 Honall features independent adjustable stone feed and pressure control on the stone. A quick release lever retracts the stone for easy removal of the tool from the component without marking the bore. The power source (portable drill) should have a 3/8” (10mm) chuck with a speed capability of 200-250RPM.
P-200

Similar to the P-180 Honall, the P-200 Sidewinder floats on ball bearings with no universal joint required. The tool does not whip during honing or when removing the tool from the hole. Ideally suited for short bore honing in either a drill press, milling machine or any other fixed drive source.

The GGN-150 Mandrel Driver is a portable mandrel driver for honing larger bores where the hone must be taken to the work. Especially designed for holes 19mm (0.75”) and larger, where the bore length is at least three times the diameter.

The Sunnen SNJ-10 manual feed portable hone will hone bores from 1.25” – 1.75” in diameter. The portable hone incorporates three point honing technology with a guideless three stone hone head for fast cutting action in small diameter bores. This portable hone is recommended for sizing and finishing small holes in parts to heavy or too awkward to stroke on a honing machine. Abrasives are available in three size ranges SNJ1-, SNJ2-, SNJ3- to cover the diameter of the tool. Shaft extensions are available in 12”, 24” and 48” lengths for longer bores. The remote feed version of this portable hone is also available, the SNR185, for use in a honing rig or automated honing machine. Abrasives available are the S18 range of stone sets with guides. The Sunnen AN-815 manual feed portable hone is a heavy duty tool used for occasional heavy duty repair. The AN-815 will hone diameters from 2.5” – 21” with the appropriate toolings. The AN-815 manual feed hone must be stopped frequently to reapply honing pressure, and this does restricts its effective use for longer larger cylinders and particularly for long blind cylinders. However, for light honing work in open bores and in shortish blind cylinders, to remove cylinder imperfections and to re-establish the correct surface finish for seals, the Sunnen manual feed tools are both economical and effective. General purpose, guideless and keyway abrasives are suitable for this tool. Both single and double length master holders are available and required to achieve maximum diameters. Abrasives available are the G25-, M27-, N37- and W47- range of stones sets with guides. Stone supports and Master holders are available for diameters above 6.0”. The Sunnen ANR-275 remote feed portable hone is for use in heavy duty production in a honing rig or honing machine. This is an ideal way to provide a basic honing capability for larger diameters and longer blind work, for higher work volumes, and for more extensive cylinder repairs. The Sunnen remote feed portable hones have a friction feed mechanism which allows the hone head to be expanded during the honing process so honing pressure is maintained at all times. The ANR 275 will give rapid effective stock removal in both open and blind cylinders and is invaluable in detecting and correcting flaws in cylinders and in re-establishing the correct surface finish for new seals. General purpose, guideless and keyway abrasives are suitable for this tool. Both single and double length master holders are available and required to achieve maximum diameters.
